Job Duties
The Virginia State Bar (VSB), an administrative agency of the Supreme Court of Virginia that regulates the practice of law in the Commonwealth of Virginia, seeks an investigator to investigate complaints of ethical misconduct by attorneys and the unauthorized practice of law. The primary territory is the Tidewater area, including but not limited to Chesapeake, Accomack, Northampton, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Norfolk, Franklin City, Isle of Wight, Southampton, Suffolk, Brunswick, Emporia, Greensville, Hopewell, Prince George, Surry, Sussex, Newport News, and Hampton, but the successful candidate may also receive assignments in other areas of Virginia.
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate must be able to work independently from a home office with high-speed internet access located in the Tidewater area and willing to travel throughout Virginia, including overnight trips. In addition, the candidate must be able to prioritize assignments; maintain strict confidentiality; be able to manage a high-volume workload; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; be proficient in desktop applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook; and exercise good judgment and problem-solving skills. Experience in and exposure to a wide range of legal matters, such as family law, criminal law and immigration law, and/or JD are favorable.
