The Information Technology Support Specialist performs analytical, technical, and administrative work in the planning and installation of new and existing personal devices and workstations; diagnoses and resolves problems in response to customer reported incidents; confers with end users to determine types of hardware and software required; installs new hardware and software and maintains existing components; trains end users in the use of equipment and software; performs general maintenance tasks; troubleshoots and resolves issues with user devices and peripheral equipment located throughout the organization; prepares progress reports for all work performed; evaluates products for compatibility, expandability, and ease of use and support; recommends to management the support or nonsupport of evaluated products .
Analyze current and proposed departmental/user hardware and software systems; develop and maintain complex systems for the various constituencies within the unit.
Review proposals which consist of objectives, scope, and user expectations; gather facts, analyze data, and prepare proposal synopses comparing alternatives in terms of cost, time, and availability of resources; recommend courses of action. Review, evaluate, and recommend solutions for hardware and software acquisitions.
Analyze and solve problems on complex computer applications and systems for students, faculty, and staff; provide a wide range of in-depth technical assistance to departmental user support staff. Write structured programs, as appropriate, using technologically current programming languages.
Provide individual and/or group instruction and training to students, faculty, and/or staff on computer technologies.
Provide technical support for research and development initiatives and for the implementation of new technologies.
May serve as project leader for technology projects with large scope and university-wide impact, directing and integrating the work of other staff.
Follow proper procedures related to secure computing, account maintenance and purchasing.
Maintain accurate documentation to support these efforts.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School degree or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering or related discipline preferred.
Experience: At least three years of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Licensure: None
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
