The IT Systems Analyst plans, designs, implements and supports the enterprise IT applications that support course evaluation and assessment operations processes, including Explorance Blue (course/instructor evaluations), the Watermark suite of assessment products (Aqua, Taskstream Learning Achievement Tools (LAT) and Taskstream Accountability Management System (AMS), and data dashboards for the development of data visualizations to support and meet the strategic and operational needs of assessment and institutional effectiveness processes.
Applications Engineer:
Plan, design, implement, and maintain third-party applications/software in support of course operations, including Explorance Blue and Watermark. Once established, coordinate, update, tune, troubleshoot/diagnose, monitor, and document supported applications including proactively planning for future upgrades and design changes.
Work closely with IT with respect to firewall exceptions, security, E-mail/SPAM rules, and on-site server specifications.
Collaborate with IT and other campus partners such as the Data Warehouse, Facilities Management to effectively integrate systems within the University infrastructure.
Receive requests from departments and devise methods to configure applications so that the system effectively meets their current and future needs.
Effective collaboration with third party consultants and support.
Provide effective support for the assessment committees and staff, assist with term scheduling and troubleshooting.
Provide effective support for end-users as well as department/school administrators. Ensure timely receipt and processing of evaluations, assessments, and reports.
Establish, maintain, and troubleshoot user/group access and ensure system functionality is configured specific to those users/groups.
Collaborate with IT colleagues to ensure effective troubleshooting of assigned IT systems and applications.
IT Business Process and Consulting Responsibilities:
Conduct analysis and develop recommendations for large software and hardware purchases.
Prepare and oversee documentation of academic affairs IT processes.
Develop and implement various end-user training and instruction on the use of academic affairs applications.
Collaborate with academic affairs colleagues to improve processes in areas that overlap with course and academic catalog management.
Support academic affairs efforts to become an inclusive, collaborative community.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related discipline and/or at least five (5) years experience managing enterprise IT applications, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Intermediate understanding of information security principles
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, administrators and students to provide support and consultation to individuals with a wide array of technical ability, and compliance with FERPA.
Experience handling student data and maintaining security and confidentiality, and compliance with FERPA
Must have a pleasant, positive, professional attitude and abide by the VCU Code of Conduct
Ability to innovate and come up with new ideas to improve users’ experience
Ability to quickly acquire new skills and knowledge relevant to technology
Prior experience developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting enterprise applications/systems in a high-pressure environment and under time constraints.
Ability to understand networking principles and interoperability between complex systems and applications
Ability to communicate effectively on a highly technical level with vendors or peers from other departments or institutions.
Ability to understand secure methods for storing and transmitting of highly sensitive data in accordance with VCU IT Security policy
Experience with statistical software tools/packages such as SPSS and general inferential statistics
Hands on experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Microsoft BI, etc. and the ability to transform quantitative and qualitative data into compelling visuals
Demonstrate experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Requirements: Master’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering, or related discipline and 7+ years in a Systems/Application Administrator/Engineer position.
