The Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Virginia’s (UVA) School of Medicine, seeks applicants for a Lab and Research Technician 1 to provide scientific and technical support for laboratory-based research pertaining to the pathogenesis of B/T cell lymphoma. The Lab and Research Technician will perform research studies and assist in experiments for the research lab of Dr. Enrica Marchi, MD, PhD.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Perform and assist with experiments involving Cell culture, Western blotting, DNA and RNA isolation, PCR and quantitative PCR.
Work with the senior scientists to develop methodologies and protocol for ongoing lab project.
Assist with the collection and entry of data in electronic media.
Order lab supplies.
Perform routine laboratory maintenance.
Perform routine laboratory data analysis and procedures.
Independently prepare solutions and reagents.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
Ability to resolve problems and work accurately and with attention to detail.
Ability to analyze and organize work procedures; plan and execute tasks or experiments; and interpret and report findings.
Ability to conduct laboratory experiments with some supervision.
Ability to collect and handle data or samples.
Ability to understand laboratory process and procedures.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Qualified candidates must have:
Education : High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience : At least one year of lab experience, which may include student experience.Bachelor's degree will be considered in lieu of experience.
Preferred : A Bachelor's Degree in biology or other directly related scientific field.
Physical Demands: This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring finer finger manipulation.
The Lab and Research Technician 1 will report to Dr. Enrica Marchi, MD, PhD.
This position is located in Charlottesville, VA.This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance. The anticipated salary range is commensurate with education and experience. This is a non-exempt level, benefited position.
