Job Description

The Cimini Lab in the Department of Biological Sciences at Virginia Tech seeks a full-time Laboratory Manager. The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day lab operations and support ongoing research projects related to mitotic cell division and chromosome number alterations. This full-time Laboratory Manager will be responsible for the following: (i) assisting with the day-to-day operation of the lab; (ii) ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations; (iii) ordering research supplies; (iv) generation of reagents; (v) maintenance of mammalian cell line; (vi) contributing to development of new protocols, data collection, and data analysis; (vii) collaborating with other researchers in the lab as needed. Candidates should submit a cover letter addressing how they meet the required and preferred qualifications described below, a CV detailing relevant work experience, and a list of three references with their contact information. This position is for at least one year, contingent upon satisfactory annual reviews. The position will remain open until filled.

Required Qualifications

- MS degree in cell biology, molecular biology, or a related field
- Excellent teamwork and collaborative skills to work effectively within a diverse team
- Experience with preparation of solutions and media
- Experience with cell culture and molecular techniques
- Enthusiasm and curiosity for science
- Excellent and demonstrated organizational and time management skills
- Excellent communication skills, including oral, written, and graphic/pictorial

Preferred Qualifications

- Previous laboratory management experience
- Experience in microscopy
- Experience working in an interdisciplinary team
