Position Summary:

The Department of Cellular, Molecular and Genetic Medicine is in search of a Lab Technician to do the following:
  • Perform routine tasks in a research environment
  • Assist in performing assigned laboratory tasks without constant supervision
  • Assist staff in laboratory work
  • Clean and stock supplies to laboratories, clean glassware, maintain inventory, perform assays, set up and conduct experiments
  • Must be able to organize work, collect and analyze data, make calculations, prepare reports, keep records, and make independent decisions
  • Ability to complete assigned special projects with minimal supervision

Core Responsibilities:
  • Lab maintenance and running of the lab
  • Doing research experiments under the guidance of the Supervisor

Minimum Hiring Standards:
  • Higher education degree in one of the relevant scientific fields such as Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biology, Genetics, Immunology, Microbiology, etc
  • Relevant coursework as well as knowledge of lab equipment and procedures
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Experience in mammalian cell culture
  • Experience in PCR and molecular cloning
  • Experience in DNA preparation, restriction digestions, running gels, imaging etc
