Job Description

Specific responsibilities include: managing departmental laboratories in Cheatham Hall, the Brooks Forest Products Center, Kelly Hall, and ICTAS II; maintaining and continuously improving a comprehensive lab safety program; being responsible for a variety of skilled, technical, and/or compliance duties in the sustainable biomaterials area; leading, training, and/or supervising students in safe and proper laboratory practices; conducting laboratory safety reviews; and monitoring the compliance of safety classes on EHS SMS system.
The laboratory technician will also apply their knowledge of scientific/technical principles, practices, and regulatory requirements of functional areas. They will perform a variety of procedures supporting research; organize graduate student maintenance of laboratory cleanliness and order; and service or diagnose laboratory programs. Duties will also include performing standardized or specialized scientific procedures; assisting in the compilation and analysis of data; communicating findings and research results; managing the operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment; training students on the proper use of instruments; maintaining/creating scheduling calendars for the analytical instrumentation; and ordering lab supplies and inventorying all laboratory chemicals.

Required Qualifications

Previous chemical laboratory experience; demonstrated ability in following standard operating procedures; possess working knowledge of lab safety and chemical handling; have experience utilizing various office software applications, such as Word, Excel and Outlook; must possess strong communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people; and have the ability to rapidly learn the proper operation of analytical instrumentation and associated equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related field; experience with analytical instrumentation.
