Chief Purpose of this position: The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Nephrology at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine seeks applicants for a position as a Lead Researcher in Kidney Health and Clinical Innovation to enhance research programs within the Division of Nephrology.

Position Responsibilities:

Teaching: Deliver lectures at the School of Medicine on topics like value-based kidney care, population health management in kidney health, quality measurement in kidney care, data analytics, and clinician data literacy.

Research: Secure funding for Kidney HEALTH: Harnessing e-Records for advanced, long-term health for kidneys research program to support the development of a patient registry for nephrology research. Oversee the Designing Equitable Care for Kidneys (DECK) study for community-based kidney health screening. Seek additional funding for the DECK study's sustainability and expansion. Support AI/ML tool implementation for kidney transplant processes at the transplant center.

Service: Work with institutional and administrative staff to attain the objectives of Virginia Commonwealth University including patient safety, maintenance and enhancement of public perception and fiscal health.

Clinical: Available to do EPIC training to support registry development for population health management. Contribute to the division's growth in kidney health, focusing on CKD clinic refinement, hospitalization risk reduction, dialysis initiation preparation, and chronic disease management. Enhance the division's readiness for incorporation of value-based kidney care payment models through development and implementation of population health management strategies.

Required Qualifications:
  • PhD with an interest and experience in kidney health research
  • Experience with health outcomes and quality improvement research
  • Data collection and analysis research experience
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a diverse team providing effective communication, both verbal and written and an interest in furthering the research, scholarly and academic missions of the division
