Licensed Massage Therapist (Hourly) Job Description: Massage therapists treat clients by using touch to manipulate the soft-tissues of the body. With their touch, therapists relieve pain, help rehabilitate injuries, improve circulation, relieve stress, increase relaxation, and aid in the general wellness of clients.
Location: Cary Street Gym and MCV Campus Recreation & Aquatic Center
Supervisor: Jessica Norman, Assistant Director for Fitness & Wellness
Starting Pay Rate: $24.00 per hour
Required Licensure or Certification(s): Licensure as a massage therapist (LMT) in the Commonwealth of Virginia 500 hours education from an approved school accredited by the Commonwealth of Virginia Current certification through the American Red Cross in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer with First Aid (or equivalent) OR the ability/willingness to obtain upon hire

Other Requirements: Ability to pass a background check
Preferred Qualifications: At least 1 year of experience
Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Massage Program: Massage soft body tissues to relieve discomfort and provide treatment for injuries, wellness maintenance or medical conditions Discuss client concerns, medical histories and specific stresses or pains to develop the most effective approach to massage treatment Review client intake forms for contraindicated conditions, properly document all treatments, and accurately maintain client records Primary Duties & Responsibilities (continued): Massage Program: Recognize and refer clients for health issues that need a referral to another healthcare provider Interview clients to gather additional information and collaborate with them on personalized treatment plans Prepare and blend lotions/oils and apply to the client’s skin Conduct up to 60-minutes of effective table massage sessions for clients Assess client’s soft tissue condition, joint quality and function, muscle strength, and range of motion Clean and restock supplies and resources for future sessions Provide chair massages for customized programs, special events, or special marketing promotions as assigned Customer Service: Maintain professionalism during all massage sessions. Provide quality customer service to all clients and potential clients. Adapt teaching approaches to the age, experience and ability of participants. Ensure the health and safety of the participants by making sure all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards. Communicate regularly with participants, as appropriate, to ensure they are aware of progress. Program Promotion and Public Relations: Market Massage Therapy program at on campus and off campus events. General Administration: Assist with other wellness programming needs. Attend all Massage Therapy and Fitness & Wellness Program staff meetings. Enforce all department and program policies and procedures as it pertains to the Massage Therapy program. Enforce all building policies and procedures, and assist as needed during emergencies. Report facility and safety equipment issues. Other duties as assigned.
Position: Normal work days are between Sunday and Saturday Normal work hours vary between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Maximum of 29 hours per week Position is located in a non-smoking work area.
