Job Duties

Sitter & Barfoot Veterans Care Center; named for two Medal of Honor recipients – Colonel Van Barfoot and Colonel Carl Sitter – provides the gold standard in quality care for Virginia’s Veterans. This single-level facility features 200 single-occupancy rooms across four nursing units.

Sitter & Barfoot Veterans Care Center is recruiting for part-time LPN Floor Nurse with Charge Nurse responsibilities for all shifts.
The LPN is responsible for delivering skilled nursing care for our veteran residents. The LPN Nurse is responsible for maintaining the quality of services and monitoring and supervising the direct care staff in the performance of their duties.

Duties include: Administering medications and treatment accurately for assigned residents;
Making daily rounds; observing and evaluating the physical and emotional status of assigned residents and taking necessary actions to ensure their health and well-being; Consulting with physicians, receiving, recording and implementing orders and scheduling appointments; Documenting residents’ health changes via acute care nurse’s notes and shift change nursing reports; Formulating plans of care for new residents; Preparing all required reports and documentation; Maintaining equipment, supplies, and materials necessary for nursing care; Consulting with Nursing Supervisor/Unit Manager as needed.

This is a part-time wage position with no benefits. This position is limited to working no more than 1500 hours per wage year (May 1 – April 30).

Wage employees must complete five consecutive days of classroom orientation/training.

Wage employees are required to work a minimum of one weekend per month and at least one major holiday each year based on departmental staffing needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Current Virginia Nursing license

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a long-term care or adult geriatric setting

Supervisory experience

Successful completion of a background criminal history check, FBI fingerprint-based background and pre-employment drug test are required. TB skin testing conducted upon hire.

PRN/part-time employees must complete five consecutive days of classroom orientation/training. A schedule will be given to part-time employees to complete online training and three days of floor orientation; this will need to be completed within two weeks of hire.
