The School of Education and Human Development at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for the Data Management Specialist position to manage and process large-scale data, producing research-ready datasets. This joint position will support the LinkB5 team at UVA as part of an ongoing research-practice partnership in Virginia. This position is full-time salaried for 40 hours a week (1.0 FTE) and will be a fully remote position.
Roles and Responsibilities:
The Data Management Specialist will establish effective, organized data systems to clean and merge large-scale administrative, assessment, and survey data. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in social science research, experience with complex data processing tasks, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with other team members . Strong communication and statistical programming skills are critical . An interest or experience in relational databases is preferred.
The Data Management Specialist will:
Develop and implement systems for effective data management and data security, including fielding and tracking requests for analytic data from team members and stakeholders.
Create detailed documentation for research-ready datasets.
Conduct quality control checks on data
Produce tables, charts, and data visualizations to address needs of partners at the Department of Education and community organizations.
Collaborate with team members through various modes of communication.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Required Qualifications
Education : A bachelor’s degree in data science, economics, psychology, public policy, education, statistics, computer science, or a related field
Experience : At least 4 years of relevant experience (coursework will be considered)
Preferred Qualifications
Significant preference will be given to those candidates who meet some or all preferred qualifications. Candidates are strongly encouraged to submit a cover letter detailing how their experience and qualifications align with the following:
A master’s degree data science, economics, psychology, public policy, education, statistics, computer science, or a related field
Strong coding skills in Stata, R, SAS, or other similar statistical software
Demonstrated interest in education or social science research
Experience with data management, manipulation, cleaning, and analysis
Knowledge of data validation and quality assurance processes to ensure accuracy of data and analyses
An understanding of data confidentiality principles to ensure data security
Flexibility to work both independently with minimal supervision and cooperatively within a team
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work across multiple projects at the same time while meeting regular deadlines
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Experience working with large-scale data in a research or professional setting
Physical Demands This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
Anticipated Hiring Range : $55,000 to $62,000 (commensurate with qualifications) with UVA benefits .
