Job Description:

Patrick Henry Community College is a comprehensive two-year institution committed to student success, lifelong learning, and enrichment of the quality of life in the region it serves. Serving Martinsville, Henry County, Patrick County, and the southern portion of Franklin County, PHCC is a comprehensive open-door institution, accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the associate degree. Patrick Henry offers 29 associate degree programs, 12 certificate programs and 38 career studies certificate programs. The college also delivers a variety of nontraditional programs such as customized workforce development training, industry-recognized certifications, developmental and transitional programs, and courses for personal enrichment.

Position Summary: Patrick Henry Community College is seeking a self-motivated and team-oriented individual to serve as Career Coach to local high school and community college students. The Magna Vista High School Career Coach will work closely with high school and college personnel, community college stakeholders, and business/industry professionals to help secondary students easily transition to postsecondary education and successful career pathways.
Responsibilities include to:
· Advise and engage community college bound high school students and current community college students to support the college’s student recruitment and retention efforts.
· Assist in developing and implementing small and large group career development opportunities.
· Help identify experiential learning opportunities for students within the community
· Serve students who lack a clearly defined academic and career plan
· Provide students, parents, and secondary/postsecondary staff and faculty with community college and transitional program information.
· Assist with student recruitment and retention
· Work with VCCS staff on Rural Virginia Horseshoe Initiative (RVHI) reporting
· Represent college at recruitment events hosted by the high school
· Discuss curriculum options with prospective high school students
· Work with students who are in the middle majority academically, low-income, first generation college students, minority, underserved populations, students who lack a clearly defined academic and career plan, and any combination of the above mentioned criteria
· Answer student questions regarding the enrollment process
· Assist students in completing college applications
· Assist students in completing FAFSA
· Help students identify other financial support resources and/or apply for them
· Serve as academic advisor for high school students who are transitioning to community college.
· Organize event for local seniors to visit campus
· Serve as liaison between interested students and technical faculty members
· Organize community college faculty visits to the high school
· Promote SEED program
· Assist students in completing the SEED application and fulfilling all documentation requirements
· Assist with college application and onboarding process.
· Work as liaison between Admissions staff and student to secure documentation necessary for processing applications.
· Assist with dual enrollment registration process and ensure each student is enrolled.
· Guide students to tutoring and other academic supports as needed
· Support advising efforts on campus · Participate in open registration events
· Continue to work with high school students once they have transition to PHCC.
· Serve as a Tier 1 Advisor
· Other duties as assigned

This position is funded through a grant and is contingent upon renewal of funding.

Salary: Expected Hiring Range is $42,000-$45,000, salary is based on qualifications and experience, a fully comprehensive Commonwealth of Virginia benefits package is included.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education, training, and/or work experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Education or a related area that demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the job.

KSA’s and/or Competencies required to successfully perform the work:

• Knowledge of counseling and/or career development theory with emphasis on adolescents and career development
• Strong written and oral communication skills; effective in communicating with students, administrative staff, faculty and parents
• Organization and data collection skills to track students who receive services; able to interpret and report data as required.
• Skill in using computer software, internet for communication, data collection and research
• Ability to collaborate with both campus and high school personnel to provide services to students
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment with a diverse student population
• Ability to work a flexible schedule that might include evenings, and travel to and from campuses and employer partners in our service region for outreach services and follow-up services
• Ability to articulate college admissions process and help students in completing appropriate forms

Preferred Qualifications:

Education, training and/or work experience equivalent to a Master’s degree in Education, Counseling or a related field that demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the job

Academic advising experience
Experience working with community college students
