UVA Health’s newly created Office of Strategy & Business Development has been formed to guide and shape the strategic direction of the organization. This position will play a vital role in understanding, forecasting, and developing a broad range of market and data analyses to inform senior leadership decision making across all four mission areas: Clinical, Education, Research and Community & Equity. UVA Health is comprised of the UVA Medical Center, UVA Children’s Hospital, UVA Transitional Care Hospital, University Physicians Group (UPG), the School of Medicine, the School of Nursing and the Claude Moore Health Sciences Library.

This position carries significant analytical responsibilities to ensure that UVA Health makes high quality strategic and business decisions. As such, the role will entail compiling and analyzing market data and the incorporation of other data sources (internal and external) in the development and implementation of strategic plans, business decisions, and ad hoc requests.

Responsibilities include the management and utilization of accurate, complete, and reliable databases and forecasting tools necessary to provide the information used in strategic and business decisions. This position will be required to understand the fundamental structure of databases and have a working knowledge of software used to manipulate, organize, and present data and information in a meaningful and informative manner. Further, this position requires the ability to interact with various levels of the organization in order to assist in the interpretation and use of that data.

Significant responsibilities in support of the strategic decision-making process including the generation compilation analysis interpretation and presentation of market and competitive information; participation in the Certificate of Public Need (“COPN”) process and in the development of strategic business plans.

  • Lead a team of data analysts and collection of data to respond to information needs for UVA Health strategic and business planning functions, understanding which data sources and components to utilize based on the given area of focus
  • Assist UVA Health entities and staff in effectively analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data and information to various parties both internal and external to UVA.
  • Participate in the development and regular production of standard reports.Incorporate Excel graphics, PowerPoint presentations, Tableau, and maps (using MapInfo, MapPoint, ArcGIS), as appropriate, to aid in the visual representation of market information.
  • Assist the UVA Health staff in integrating market data with internal data generated by finance, marketing, and other relevant departments.
  • Appropriately communicate parameters, assumptions, and details related to the data and analysis conducted.
  • Keep the manager apprised of the progress and status of all projects. Consistently meet deliverable deadlines.
  • Effectively use software programs (Microsoft Access & Excel) designed to extract, manipulate, compile, and organize internal and external information (Microsoft SQL experience preferred, but not required)
  • Develop and apply knowledge of other databases, both internal and external to UVA (e.g. Truven, Sg2, etc.)
  • Receive and track project requests; review and clarify with clients, as needed.
  • Identify necessary data to be collected and run database reports for specific requests about the market and service area.
  • Assist UVA Health entities and staff in developing ad-hoc reports aimed at extracting the relevant data needed by the end-user.
  • Effectively analyze and interpret the data/information to garner key insights and present the information in a clear, concise, and polished manner.
  • Keep the manager apprised of the progress and status of all projects. Consistently meet deliverable deadlines.
  • Appropriately manage the repository of historical requests, data pulls, and deliverables
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Position Compensation Range: $104,894.40 - $167,835.20 Annual

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare, data analytics or quantitative field from an accredited college or university. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience: Working knowledge of Microsoft business package to include PowerPoint, Access, Word, and Excel. Tableau and SQL preferred, not required. Working knowledge of PC and/or web-based software programs for database support and management. Experience drafting written materials for executive leadership and/or regulatory stakeholders. At least two years of relevant work experience (a Master’s degree can substitute for two years of experience).
Licensure: None.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
