The University of Virginia's Career Center has an exciting marketing and communications opportunity for a skilled professional to join their team. As part of Student Affairs, the Career Center engages and supports students in the discovery and pursuit of meaningful lives. The Marketing & Communications Coordinator supports the Career Center’s efforts in planning, coordinating, implementing, evaluating and continually improving a comprehensive, culturally competent marketing and communications portfolio. This includes developing the department's brand, increasing understanding and awareness of programs, events, and services, and promoting the department's vision, mission and goals. The Marketing & Communications Coordinator utilizes all available and emerging technologies to increase public awareness of the Student Affairs department's programs, events, and services.

The Marketing & Communications Coordinator 's responsibilites include:
  • Manage a wide-variety of communications activities for the UVA Career Center.
  • Coordinate and contribute to print publications and e-communications.
  • Translate organizational goals into logistical plans, operationalizing desired outcomes.
  • Proactively manage media relations, handling incoming inquiries, as well as fostering ongoing relationships. Typically maintains an established network of external communications relationships.
  • Advise UCC staff on publication projects, media appearances, public presentations, marketing activities, and initiatives to raise organizational profile.
  • Manage ongoing and special events, coordinating fairs, events, logistics, agendas, staff, speaker arrangements, external promotions, and post-event reports. Coordinate with outside consultants as necessary.
  • Establish communication and publications calendar.
  • May oversee the work of other staff members, providing mentoring and guidance, as appropriate.

In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.


Education: Bachelor's degree in English or Communications
Experience: Three years of experience
Licensure: None

Knowledge of a University career center's functions is preferred but not required.

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $52,000-55,000. The position is open to some Hybrid work but is primarily in person, on-Grounds (1 day/week remote) with some night and weekend work.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
