Job Description:
Mountain Gateway Community College (MGCC) is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of 23 community colleges in Virginia. The college is supported by the Commonwealth of Virginia; the counties of Alleghany, Bath, Botetourt (northern portion) and Rockbridge; the cities of Buena Vista, Covington, and Lexington; and the town of Clifton Forge. Position Overview:
As the Marketing & Public Relations Manager, you will be at the forefront of shaping our college’s image and outreach. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Developing and implementing strategic marketing campaigns in collaboration with the President
  • Managing media relations to enhance visibility and reputation
  • Overseeing digital and print communications, including social media and webpage updates for MGCC, the Educational Foundation, and the Real Estate Foundation
  • Promoting college programs, achievements, and community events
  • Assisting with special events and outreach initiatives
  • Serving as the College’s Public Information Officer (PIO), ensuring accurate and timely communication with the public

MGCC MARKETING (100%)

  • Develop and execute innovative marketing strategies aligned with the college’s goals to enhance visibility, engagement, and enrollment growth.
  • Oversee and facilitate clear, accurate, and high-quality communication among internal departments and external partners, ensuring adherence to established standards and messaging guidelines.
  • Collaborate closely with the Admissions/Recruiting Office and Workforce Solutions/Community Education Office to design and implement targeted strategies that foster long-term enrollment retention and community engagement.
  • Assist in the creation, review, and dissemination of compelling marketing and public relations materials for the college and its educational foundation.
  • Coordinate and monitor activities related to the college’s marketing plan, ensuring timely execution and alignment with institutional objectives.
  • Ensure all creative marketing materials are regularly reviewed for quality, consistency, and compliance with brand standards.
  • Develop and implement social media strategies by conducting competitive research, selecting appropriate platforms, benchmarking performance, crafting targeted messaging, and identifying key audiences.
  • Generate, edit, and publish engaging content daily across various digital platforms to foster meaningful community connections and inspire action.
  • Identify and leverage the most effective media channels to distribute college marketing materials to diverse audiences.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to internal teams and external partners, maintaining positive and professional relationships.
  • Produce high-quality graphic design for collateral, digital media, and promotional materials that align with branding guidelines.
  • Manage website updates and maintenance to ensure content accuracy, usability, and overall site health.
  • Support the Director in planning, organizing, and executing special events that promote college initiatives and community involvement.
Minimum Qualifications:


  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and effectively
  • Proficient in advanced keyboarding techniques and highly skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Expertise in publishing and graphic design software, including Canva, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Strong understanding of HTML and experience with web development tools and platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies and continuously improve digital literacy skills



Additional Considerations:


  • Prefer bachelor’s degree (communications, English, marketing, or related preferred) and 5 years work experience
  • Marketing experience; experience with all traditional and emerging marketing channels
