Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is a nonresidential two-year institution of higher education that serves Central Virginia - principally residents of the City of Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson. Our scenic campus is located in Albemarle County, Virginia. We are one of 23 community colleges in Virginia that comprise the Virginia Community College System (VCCS).
Purpose:
Tutors typically specialize in math and assist students in other subjects taught at the Piedmont Virginia Community College. Other subjects are based on the tutor’s academic background and comfort level.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Tutors assist students individually and collectively in one or more of the following areas: biological sciences, business, humanities, mathematics, physical sciences, social sciences, technologies, and writings. Tutors are not responsible for instructing students or for knowing all the answers. Tutors encourage students to use the many resources available to them- instructors, notes, peers, textbooks, and others- to solve problems on their own. A good tutor does not do the work for the student, but instead equips the students to help themselves.

Strong active listening skills
Able to maintain confidentiality
Desire to work with a diverse populations
Responsible, dependable, honest, and mature
High academic achievement, especially in subject area(s) applicant wishes to tutor
Preferred Qualifications:
Has sought tutoring in academic work
