Mission or Goal of Unit: The Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine Division at VCU is a multi-faceted Division with full time faculty who care for patients with all forms of acute or chronic lung disease and critical illness. The mission of the Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine Division is to provide the best clinical care available for patients with lung disease and associated medical illnesses in the Commonwealth of Virginia. We feel that this care can best be delivered within the VCU Health System. Our mission is to train students, residents and fellows in the disciplines of lung disease, critical illness and associated disorders. Finally, we strive to advance knowledge in our field through organized research with a goal of improving human health.
Chief Purpose of this position: Virginia Commonwealth University Division of Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine is seeking a candidate for Medical Director of the Lung Transplant Program. The incumbent will lead a multi-disciplinary team in providing comprehensive care and management of patients before and after lung transplant. The Medical Director is responsible for providing administrative leadership to the Lung Transplant Program; develop policies and practice guideline to assure compliance with governing agencies; participate in various outreach activities with multiple constituencies both within and outside the Hospital and University and the broader clinical community; guide performance improvement guidelines, policies and protocols. Time will also be allocated to other critical care responsibilities (Resource Intensivist shifts, MRICU attending, Critical Care consults).
Position Responsibilities:
Clinical | Will provide exemplary care in the areas of Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine. Will provide exemplary care in the treatment of Lung Transplant patients. Will provide care on inpatient services on the MRICU, Critical Care Consult service and Outpatient clinics.
Administrative | Will serve as the Medical Director of the Lung Transplant program-building the clinical, educational and administrative sections of the program.
Required Qualifications:
MD degree or equivalent
Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine
Meets the qualifications and requirements of national accrediting agencies (UNOS)
Strong interpersonal skills and excellence in patient care and teaching
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment as a faculty member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications:
Dedicated fellowship training in Transplant Pulmonology
