The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine is seeking a motivated individual as a Medical Scribe. The Department of Ophthalmology is to reduce vision-threatening eye diseases through clinical care, research, teaching, and community service. The goal is to provide the most effective and advanced management of ocular diseases and complex vision problems for the local, state, regional, national, and international communities.
The Medical Scribe will provide clinical assistance to faculty by performing on-site medical transcription. They may also support research efforts by entering data into project and medical record databases and assisting with documentation. The incumbent will accompany providers in patient clinic encounters to record accurate medical information including notes of communication, past medical records, laboratory results, etc.
The successful candidate will be expected to :
Ensures patient charts are accurate and thoroughly documented according to University and Medical Center policies.
Collect and enter data into medical records and study databases.
Assist faculty and researchers with reports, researching records, and disposition of information.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Qualified candidates must have a bachelor’s degree, in a healthcare or science related field. Experience with medical terminology or transcription is a plus. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) is required.
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to
attend meetings, and programs.
This position will remain open until filled. This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment. A completed pre-employment health screen is required for this position prior to employment.
