Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is in search of a qualified Program Manager for our Motor Carrier Department. This position provides leadership and support to Motor Carrier Service staff and the programs and functions within Motor Carrier Services. The primary purpose of the position is to manage and direct the level of compliance with motor carrier requirements, identify areas of concern, and design and implement strategies to achieve higher levels of compliance. Oversees the issuance of intrastate operating authority.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of basic math and basic accounting principles
  • Strong PC skills and a good understanding of the Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership and human resource management
  • Demonstrated experience to interpret, apply, and communicate laws/policies to staff/customers
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization and the ability to work cooperatively with others, to establish priorities and perform multiple complex tasks
  • Demonstrated experience in supervisory principles and practices to include but not limited to conducting interviews, team building, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, etc…
  • Demonstrated strength in problem solving and analytical thinking abilities
  • Demonstrated project and presentation experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of office operational principles and practices to include but not limited to process documentation, policy and procedure preparations, process improvements, etc…
  • Ability to develop and utilize spreadsheets, databases and other tools and to analyze and track data, identify trends and anomalies, and to document and report program activities
  • Must possess a strong customer focus and have the ability to mentor and influence the customer service provided by others

Preferred Qualifications:

BS degree in Business or related field
