Department: Neurology

Department Summary: The Department of Neurology has a talented, robust team of more than 70 faculty members spanning nine divisions includes representatives from every neurology subspecialty in adult and child neurology, plus award-winning educators, clinical and translational neuroscientists and master clinicians.

The Department of Neurology’s vision is to provide the best patient-centered neurological care while fostering the career development, education and training of our team members. We endeavor to realize this vision by fulfilling the following three missions:

1. Improve the lives of children and adults with neurological disorders through compassionate, high-quality medical care and patient education.

2. Provide exceptional education to our students, residents, fellows and the wider community of medical professionals.

3. Advance the knowledge of neurological diseases by actively developing innovative treatments through basic, translational and clinical research.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The mission of the Department of Neurology is to provide state of the art comprehensive patient centered neurological care for adults and children, perform translational and clinical research to further understanding of disease mechanisms and develop new treatments, and train the next generation of neurologists and clinical neuroscientists. Department faculty have a responsibility to provide service to their profession and our community. 

The Department of Neurology is seeking a full-time member to join our expanding clinical and research enterprises in the Division of Neuromuscular medicine. This position will provide patient care, engage in medical student and neurology resident and fellow education, and participate in clinical research.

  • Clinical      
    • Primary clinical responsibilities include care of patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings with an emphasis on neuromuscular diseases.
  • Teaching      
    • Faculty member will teach medical students and housestaff. They will be expected to organize and develop a series of formal conferences for the house staff and students emphasizing issues in neuromuscular medicine. They will attend weekly Grand Rounds and lecture upon occasion as requested.
  • Research      
    • The Division of Adult Neurology is engaged in clinical and translation research projects. The faculty member will be expected to participate in, and when appropriate lead, clinical research and clinical trials.
  • Service      
    • Faculty member will serve on departmental, School of Medicine, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, e.g. reviewer, conference organizer, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MD or MD/PhD degree (or equivalent)
  • BC/BE in Neurology
  • Fellowship training in Neuromuscular Diseases
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience

FLSA Exemption Status: Exempt
