Job Description
The Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation seeks a qualified individual to provide program support to faculty with teaching, research, and extension responsibilities and to undergraduate and graduate students. The selected individual will use various software to prepare classwork, correspondence, university forms, etc.; make travel arrangements and prepare travel reimbursements for Virginia Tech employees and non-university visitors; order materials and supplies using the Virginia Tech P-Card and HokieMart; provide support to faculty with the planning and implementation of seminars, workshops, meetings, etc.; prepare monthly leave reports; assist faculty with electronic calendaring and scheduling; assist faculty and students with determining and following appropriate university policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
Administrative support experience in an academic or professional office environment.
Comprehensive knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
Skilled in the use of personal computers and Microsoft Office or similar software.
Experience working independently and accurately setting priorities, managing time, making decisions, providing direction, and interacting well with others.
Demonstrated ability to work in a highly professional manner with diverse groups of faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree, education, or training in a secretarial, administrative, or business-related field.
University experience providing office support in a similar position is highly desired.
Experience with purchasing procedures and HokieMart.
Experience with Banner HR, Banner Finance, and Banner Student Systems.
Experience with Virginia Tech’s financial and travel regulations, policies, and procedures.
Experience with Virginia Tech personnel transactions and payroll.
Experience with Virginia Tech PageUp system.
Experience with Virginia Tech Office of Sponsored Programs policies and procedures.
Knowledge of Virginia Tech CashNet deposit system and Virginia Tech Foundation deposit standards.
