Mission or Goal of Unit: Pursue the Research, Clinical, and Education Missions of the academic medical center in the areas of Hematology, Oncology, and Palliative Care. Through bench research, clinical trials and the rigorous study of prevention and control, our scientists pursue the many roles of medicine in treating, preventing and controlling the adverse effects of cancer. Our hallmark activity is translational research, where our physicians and scientists work to bring laboratory discoveries to the patient bedside as quickly and safely as possible. Through our training programs, our faculty train the next generation of scientists and physicians to further advance science and practice.
Chief Purpose of this position: The VCU School of Medicine Division of Hematology, Oncology and Palliative Care and Massey Cancer Center are seeking a Clinical & Translational Investigator with a focus in Hematology to practice at our flagship and satellite locations. This position will be responsible for bringing the most innovative clinical trials in Hematology to the Massey Cancer Center and the VCU region utilizing intra and extramural partnerships.
Position Responsibilities:
Teaching: Trains medical students, residents and fellows in the lab and while in the clinic. Expected to actively participate in providing clinical research opportunities to fellows.
Research: This position will be responsible for bringing the most innovative clinical trials in hematology to the Massey Cancer Center and the VCU region utilizing intra and extramural partnerships. Ability to collaborate with Basic Science Investigators will be key in developing a translational research program. This position will be expected to establish extramural partnerships with the ultimate goal of offering the most innovative drugs in hematology to patients at the Massey Cancer Center before they are standard of care.
Service: It is expected that the incumbent will be active in decreasing Health Disparities in the community served by Massey/VCU
Clinical: Attends on the inpatient wards and consult service, and/or sees patients in the outpatient clinic with a focus on hematology.
Required Qualifications:
MD; Board certified or eligible in Medical Oncology or Hematology
Eligible for Virginia licensure
Interest in developing a subspecialty in medical oncology practice
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications:
Clinical trial leadership experience
