The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Virginia is seeking candidates for a tenure eligible Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor position to start in the Summer or early Fall 2023.

This clinical faculty position is responsible for providing exceptional patient care in the management of orthopaedic hip and knee arthroplasty with a commitment to musculoskeletal research. Qualified applicants must have demonstrated clinical expertise and the ability to perform high quality basic scientific or clinical research.

Candidates must have a MD degree and be board-eligible or board-certified. A fellowship in the sub-specialty of Joint replacement arthroplasty is expected as well as evidence of academic productivity. Salary and tenure status are dependent upon qualifications. The position will remain open until filled.

The Adult Reconstruction Division currently has four surgeons and three physician assistants to manage the patient population. Training and exposure in the broad range of surgical techniques is preferable, particularly as it relates to primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty, trauma, infection, and rapid recovery surgical protocols. The candidate will also be expected to help expand the outpatient joint replacement program at the new Orthopedic Center at Ivy Road.

The candidate will be joining the UVA Department of Orthopaedic Surgery with 30 faculty members across 8 specialties and will be expected to contribute to our missions of clinical care at a Level 1 trauma center; education of medical students, residents, and fellows; and clinical or basic science research.

Job Responsibilities:

• Teaching - Teaching encompasses all activities that directly facilitate student learning, including the contact hours spent in the classroom, clinic, OR, office hours, lecture preparation, answering student email, student advising, evaluating and making available course materials, facilitating e-learning and related duties.

• Research - The research component of an assistant professor position normally includes scholarly publication, attending academic conferences and obtaining grants. More senior scholars often take leadership roles in scholarly associations and act as editors, board members and referees for grant-giving organizations, academic presses and scholarly journals.

• Service- - University service involves membership in departmental, college-level and university committees, attending departmental meetings, student recruitment and processing routine paperwork such as filling out reports, answering email, participating in surveys and voting in university elections.

• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
