The School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks candidates for multiple new open rank tenure-track faculty positions, specializing in Aerospace Engineering in the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (MAE). Rank is dependent upon experience and qualifications.

Applicants with expertise in all areas relevant to aerospace engineering will be considered. In particular, those with computational or experimental research programs related to aeronautics (low to high Mach number, including hypersonics), space flight, and space exploration that are developing new foundational understanding in fields of thermomechanics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and impact mechanics in the extreme environments related to these aerospace technologies are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants should demonstrate potential to build collaborations with current UVA faculty both in MAE and in other departments in UVA Engineering and UVA School of Data Science, leading to new research fields in aerospace science and technology. The UVA MAE department has strong research expertise in the fields of reacting flow, hypersonics, multiphase flow, advanced flow diagnostics, heat transfer in extreme environments, and robotics and autonomous systems. UVA Engineering has established research thrusts and multidisciplinary centers in several areas of aerospace engineering science and technology, including leadership and participation in the University Consortium for Applied Hypersonics (UCAH), the Rolls-Royce University Technology Center, the Center for Risk Management of Engineering Systems, and previously the National Center for Hypersonic Combined Cycle Propulsion.

Beyond building an internationally recognized research program, we are seeking applicants who are highly motivated to teach aerospace engineering courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. An earned Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering or related field is required by the start date, and an earned B.S. degree in aerospace engineering from an ABET-accredited or equivalent program is preferred.
