Starting Salary Range: $54,808 - $62,000

The State Corporation Commission’s (“SCC” or “Commission”) Division of Utility and Railroad Safety (“URS”) seeks a professional and detail-oriented Paralegal. Reporting directly to the Director of URS, the paralegal selected for this position will work closely with attorneys from the SCC’s Office of General Counsel and URS staff to proof and edit legal documents by synthesizing information, recognizing opportunities or issues, and recommending changes.  This position, based in Richmond, offers a hybrid work schedule (generally 3 days of telework, 2 days in the office per week) as well as professional development and training opportunities. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Paralegal include the following:

• Drafting Commission orders and other legal documents, conducting legal research, preparing reports, and assisting in rulemaking proceedings
• Tracking and organizing all damage prevention enforcement documents related to the Underground Utility Damage Prevention Act
• Tracking and entering damage prevention reports and assisting with committee meetings
• Assisting with preparations for rules to show cause hearings 
• Performing administrative duties to support URS, such as checking the mail and depositing checks, working within the JARS/CASE system, and managing the Division’s debt off-set program
• Performing other related work as required
