Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is hiring! As a Park Ranger – Housekeeping, your attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness will directly enhance the visitor experience across a wide range of park facilities.

As the Park Ranger, you will be responsible for supervising housekeeping and maintenance operations to ensure overnight facilities are safe, meet agency standards, and are welcoming for guests.

As a Park Ranger focused on housekeeping, you will:

  • Supervise maintenance and housekeeping activities by leading and assisting in the daily cleaning and servicing of park facilities to maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation.
  • Perform ongoing routine cleaning, maintenance, and repairs to overnight facilities.
  • Inspect rental facilities before occupancy to ensure standards are met.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, including sharing park information, answering visitor questions, and addressing facility-related concerns.
  • Support fee collection, visitor assistance, and public relations as needed.
  • Help educate guests on park rules and promote a positive, respectful park environment.

Will work in diverse conditions including exposure to the outdoors, weather in all seasons, dust, animals, and insects. Will be required to perform manual labor including standing, bending, pulling, climbing, and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Skilled in the use of a computer and various software programs.
  • Ability to lead, direct, and train others.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Experience in cleaning or janitorial work

Additional Considerations

  • Experience in inventory management
  • Experience in basic construction/maintenance trades (I.E., carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, etc.)
  • Previous work experience within parks and/or recreation or a similar environment.
  • Experience overseeing workplace safety, OSHA compliance, and safety training.
