Job Description: The Office of Dual Enrollment seeks to fill a part-time dual enrollment coordinator position. This position works with Dual Enrollment high school students taking college classes at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA). This is a part-time position, working a maximum of 29 hours per week. Duties and Tasks:
Counselor will provide general academic support counseling services for the dual enrollment program of Northern Virginia Community College under the direct supervision of the Director of Dual Enrollment.
Counselor will assist students utilizing virtual tools and media to promote student success through academic advising, retention outreach and programming, disability services awareness, military services, career services and transfer support as needed.
Counselor will work in collaboration with incumbent counselors to ensure that a robust menu of programming and support services are available to the high school students who attend courses through online learning or on campus, including but not limited to:
individual and group academic advising, participating in college committees, special projects, facilitating trainings, developing webinars, gathering data and presenting on outcomes as requested.
in addition to assuming other responsibilities as assigned. Daily work may include:
Delivering academic counseling services to assist students in making decisions regarding their vocational goals and academic programs.
Developing and facilitating advising webinars.
Analyzing the progress of students; discussing with them their short and long-range educational and vocational goals.
Providing referrals to support services that will minimize academic barriers for students.
Minimum Qualifications:
KSA's:
Working knowledge of dual enrollment, advising, and college opportunities.
Skill in providing academic, career, transfer, probation, SAP, and personal counseling to adolescents and adults.
Skill in written communication including the development of letters, memos, and presentation and course materials.
Knowledge of and skill in computer usage including Microsoft Office, e-mail, student information systems, Adobe Acrobat Reader and use of the Internet to complete research.
Ability to collaborate effectively with personnel from NOVA.
Ability to work in a fast-paced academic advising environment.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a timely manner.
Ability to work cooperatively with students and parents.
Skill in working with diverse populations including international students, students with disabilities, veterans, and non-traditional students.
Ability to design and implement programs specific to high school students.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling or a combination of education and relevant occupational experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience working in a community college setting
Previous experience working with high school students
