The Office of Relevant, Experiential, and Applied Learning (REAL) seeks a new team member to assist and support VCU’s experiential learning initiatives! The selected candidate will provide general support and assistance to the REAL Office with a focus on student outreach, event planning and coordination of faculty and staff development initiatives. Areas of work will include but not be limited to:
General office and clerical support
Organizing and maintaining office common areas
Assisting with incoming and outgoing communications
Management of the REAL Update listserv and newsletter
Maintaining databases, workflows, and document archives
Support organizations within REAL as needed
Student engagement
Supervising and coordinating REAL student workers and interns
Coordinating the REAL Transformative Learning Ambassador program and other student recognition programs
Assisting with student registration in REAL courses and programs
Planning and implementation of student-facing events and initiatives including Fall and Spring Experiential Learning Fairs
Faculty and staff engagement and support
Planning and implementation of faculty and staff-facing events including town halls, information sessions, focus groups, a spring Keeping it REAL faculty/staff showcase, and quarterly meetings of the REAL Council
REAL Council membership management
Coordination of externally facing communications and promotion/outreach efforts, including the REAL grant programs
Required Qualifications:
Ability to work part-time at 20-29 hours per week
Strong written/oral communication and interpersonal skills
Commitment to professionalism and collegiality in all interactions
Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Forms
Ability to work on multiple projects in conjunction with reasonable interruption
Ability to develop and maintain relationships and collaborations with faculty
Ability to work well with limited supervision
Demonstrated experience working in fostering a diverse student, staff, and faculty environment, or commitment to do so as an employee at VCU
Preferred Qualifications:
Current VCU graduate student
Completion of at least one experiential learning opportunity such as service-learning, study abroad, research, civic engagement, or an internship in high school or college
Experience with project management
Experience with event planning and implementation
Previous experience working with college students in a university setting
Experience with marketing, including social media
Experience with data analysis or survey development
