Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is a nonresidential two-year institution of higher education that serves Central Virginia – principally residents of the City of Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson. Our scenic campus is located in Albemarle County, Virginia. We are one of 23 community colleges in Virginia that comprise the Virginia Community College System (VCCS).


Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer, and working closely with the Finance department, the Payroll and HRIS Specialist will prepare and process all payrolls for the college, including full-time staff and faculty, part-time/wage staff, adjunct faculty, and federal work study students. In addition, this person will serve as the HR and Payroll Information System subject matter expert, maintaining employee records, preparing HR and Payroll reports, and analyzing data for the college and other state agencies. This position will also assist in the administration of various leave programs and support the adjunct faculty contract process.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Subject matter expert in the Commonwealth of Virginia “Cardinal” HCM System (PeopleSoft Human Capital Management) and other systems used by the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) or the Virginia Department of Human Resource Management (DHRM).
  • Keep up to date on all aspects of full-time and hourly/wage payroll functions.
  • Create adjunct faculty and hourly wage reports in support of payroll and PVCC budgeting and planning purposes.
  • Assists employees and managers with payroll related questions.
  • Prepare and reconcile all quarterly and annual reports such as the quarterly VEC report and the monthly VRS/CIPPS reports.
  • Track and process FMLA, VSDP, Educational, Sabbatical, Military, Personal and other Leaves of Absence in appropriate systems and provide timely information to supervisors and employees.
  • Run ad hoc reports and analyze data.
  • Participate in departmental process improvement initiatives.
  • Support HCM system enhancements and updates.
  • Participate in a team environment where collaboration and support for colleagues are seen as critical success factors.
  • Work closely with the Virginia Community College Shared Services Center.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education, training, and/or work experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Human Resources, Business Administration or other applicable field.
  • At least one year of experience involving: 1) payroll processing, or 2) working in Human Resources, or 3) working in a contemporary HR/Payroll information system writing reports, entering information, and analyzing data.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in Peoplesoft Human Capital Management System.
  • Payroll or HRIS experience in a post-secondary educational environment.
  • Experience with the Commonwealth of Virginia Human Resources or Payroll policies and procedures.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Professional in Human Resources (PHR or equivalent)
