The mission of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery of the Department of Surgery is the advancement of patient care through research and innovation and the education of undergraduate and graduate students in our discipline. The Department fosters a level of research and professional activity essential to the professional growth of the faculty. The Division provides faculty with clinical and research experiences that helps them to promote their clinical and research careers. Chief Purpose of this position:
The Department of Surgery at the Virginia Commonwealth University/VCU Health System is actively recruiting for a full-time pediatric plastic surgeon. This position is a collateral, non-tenure track faculty position in the area of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Associate Professor level or higher. The faculty member will have primary practice in pediatric plastic surgery and will support the division in teaching responsibilities at the VCU Medical Center.
Position Responsibilities:
Teaching Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in all areas of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery with direct oversight to the resident clinics both at the VCU Medical Center.
Research Faculty member will establish clinical research projects with medical students and residents to establish evidence-based practice outcomes in the areas of pediatric plastic surgery, , general plastic surgery and surgical education.
Service Faculty member will serve on departmental and hospital committees as assigned and participate in regional and national professional organizations.
Clinical Faculty member clinical responsibility will be in the care of the Plastic and Reconstructive patients on the MCV campus of VCU, as well as community facilities. They will be responsible for the development of an active surgical practice, with the support of the Division and Department’s leadership.
Required Qualifications:
Must be Board Certified/Board Eligible in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
Fellowship training in Pediatric Plastic Surgery
Experience in building and leading a service line in pediatric plastic surgery including wound care, general reconstruction, microsurgery, and pediatric/congenital hand surgery
Commitment to Resident Education and teaching
Commitment to Clinical Research and Innovation
Superior communication and interpersonal skills are a must.
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU is required
Preferred Qualifications:
Expertise in pediatric hand surgery preferred
