This leader supports the objective of delivering safe, cost-effective and optimal medication therapy. They are responsible for overseeing pharmacy managers of operations-based pharmacy teams, University Hospital inpatient pharmacy and sterile compounding, pharmacy operations strategy, committees and other interdisciplinary groups involving pharmacy. They will collaborate with the acute care and infusion pharmacy leadership team, service line leadership, nursing, and medical leadership in support of optimal patient care. The director will coordinate all operational pharmacy services and programs to help obtain desirable patient outcomes through the use of safe, appropriate, and effective medication therapies. This position oversees pharmacy operations across the acute care areas of the UVA University Hospital, creating operational efficiencies, promoting standardization and advancing pharmacy practices. This position supports the education mission of UVA by precepting pharmacy residents and students.

  • Director of Acute Care Operations will be responsible for creating the vision and direction for pharmacy operations areas and facilitating pursuit of best practices
  • Skills required for this role include leadership through influence, prioritization, pharmacy management expertise, leading process changes, implementing strategies improve safety of operational processes, and facilitating a culture of safety in partnership with department of pharmacy leaders
  • Demonstrates the highest level of professionalism in all activities, as measured by a concern for patient care, the ability to listen and cooperate, demonstrating flexibility, the ability to help others within and across departments and teams, and the ability to set and achieve goals
  • Serves as the Pharmacist in Charge for University Hospital Inpatient Pharmacy
  • Develops goals, objectives, measures policies and procedures for departmental operations
  • Responsible for facilitating compliance with local, state, federal, and organizational requirements, and coordinating accreditation/inspection readiness activities in partnership with department of pharmacy leaders
  • Collaborates with all levels of health care professionals to provide safe and effective care
  • Develops and leads proactive implementation of best practices, technology, and automation to support pharmacy operations
  • Collaborate with key service line leaders to support University Hospital
  • Participates in the development of policies and procedures related to pharmacy operations, applicable pharmacy accreditation standards and compliance with federal and state rules and regulations
  • Develops talent and coaches peers and others to develop their capabilities
  • Holds staff accountable for meeting external and/or internal customers needs.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned
Position Compensation Range: $141,169.60 - $225,867.20 Annual

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Pharmacy degree required (Masters and/or Pharm.D.) from an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy. Master's degree required.
Experience: Minimum 3 years progressive experience in pharmacy practice and pharmacy management. Specialized residency training in pharmacy administration will be considered in lieu of experience.
Licensure: Licensed to practice as a Pharmacist in the Commonwealth of Virginia required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
