Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board.
Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses
Virginia Western Community College, located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Roanoke Valley, is accepting applications for part-time Pharmacy Technician Instructors in the School of Career and Corporate Training (CCT), previously called Workforce Development. Pharmacy Technician instructors will perform a variety of clinical instructional assignments and classroom preparation requiring in-depth knowledge of the following topics: Pharmaceutical Calculations, Medical Terminology, Sterile and Non-Sterile Compounding, Medical Safety, and PTCB Exam Preparation. This position will also assist in all other instructor related duties to support the program and the CCT department.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidate must be a pharmacy technician with at least five years of experience performing technician tasks and hold a current, unrestricted registration in Virginia or current PTCB certification or must be a pharmacist with a current and unrestricted license. The successful candidate must have previous experience in a pharmacy setting. The successfully candidate also must possess expert-level skills and abilities necessary to pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam. Must also possess knowledge of local and regional health care facilities and systems. Must be very detailed oriented and have the ability to meet set deadlines.
All Adjunct Faculty positions require excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to write syllabi and exams; ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum and assessments; as well as the ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate's degree and successful completion of PTCB credential preferred. Proven ability to provide instruction in accelerated formats geared towards certification exam preparation. Demonstrated track record of high level of student credential and institutional outcomes with the ability to deliver instruction in the classroom and in lab environments.
