This position is located in Petersburg, Va.
The Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARs) is seeking a Placement Counselor. The DRS Field Rehabilitation Services Division assists individuals with disabilities to make informed choices that will maximize their employment through coordinated service delivery. In collaboration with the Workforce Network, we deliver quality workforce services to individuals with disabilities who want to work and employers seeking to hire them.
In partnership with persons with disabilities, provides comprehensive vocational rehabilitation services which result in employment and enhanced independent living in compliance with federal, state, and agency policy and procedures. Core case management services may include guidance and counseling, employer engagement/cultivation, Pre-Employment Services and Counseling, Job readiness training services and job placement services. Caseload may consist of students, youth, and adults with varying disabilities including, but not limited to serious mental illness, substance abuse, hearing impairment and all other disabilities. This position is housed in the Petersburg Office. Coverage areas include Petersburg, Hopewell, Colonial Heights, Prince George, Dinwiddie, Surry, Sussex, Brunswick, and Emporia.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience in developing prospects and implementing marketing strategies. Collaborates with Business leaders to identify job openings and to promote the benefit of career development and placement services. Develops and maintains relationships with business and community partners. Keep abreast of current sources and use of career, occupational, and employment formation in providing labor market information to both counselors and candidates. Demonstrated ability to write for professional and public audiences and conduct training. Knowledge of various software programs such as spreadsheet, word processing, desktop publishing, and database management as applicable to marketing program. Use of the Internet for the purpose of employment outcomes.
Degree in Business Management, Communications, Human Services, Marketing, Vocational Rehabilitation, related field; or equivalent experience to demonstrate proficiency in working with businesses to employ individuals with disabilities. Bachelor’s level transcripts must accompany the application. Please note that the transcripts must display the date that the degree was awarded.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities and understanding of best practices related to the employment of people with disabilities is preferred. Working knowledge of human services, adult education, social services and other stakeholders and community partners preferred.
