Mission or Goal of Unit: The mission of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery of the Department of Surgery is the advancement of patient care through research and innovation and the education of undergraduate and graduate students in our discipline. The Department fosters a level of research and professional activity essential to the professional growth of the faculty. The Division provides faculty with clinical and research experiences that helps them to promote their clinical and research careers. Chief Purpose of this position: The Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at VCU/VCU Health System is recruiting for an open rank, non-tenure track faculty position in the area of plastic and reconstructive surgery. The faculty member should build a robust hand surgery practice and limb salvage reconstruction program. The faculty member will also support the division in teaching responsibilities at the VCU Medical Center.
Position Responsibilities:
Clinical Clinical responsibility will be in the care of the plastic and reconstructive surgery patients on the MCV campus of VCU, as well as community facilities. They will be responsible for the development of an active surgical practice with the support of the Division and Department’s leadership.
Teaching This role will have teaching responsibilities in all areas of plastic and reconstructive surgery with direct oversight of the resident clinics at the VCU Medical Center.
Research The faculty member will establish clinical research projects with medical students and residents to establish evidence-based practice outcomes in the areas of hand surgery, general plastic surgery and surgical education.
Service The faculty member will serve on departmental and hospital committees as assigned and participate in regional and national professional organizations.
Required Qualifications:
Must be board certified/board eligible in plastic & reconstructive surgery (or foreign equivalent)
Completion of fellowship training in hand surgery; CAQ eligible or certified
Commitment to resident education and teaching
Commitment to clinical research and innovation
Strong interest in hand surgery, general plastic surgery, and microsurgery
Superior communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
