The mission of the VCU Police department is to provide a safe and secure learning, living and working environment for the students, faculty, staff, and visitors of Virginia Commonwealth University.

Summary:
To provide a 24/7 comprehensive emergency communications and warning service for the University, Hospital System and the general public by receiving and dispatching calls for police and security services.
Preferred Qualifications:
Possession of DCJS Basic Dispatch Certification and VCIN Class "A" Certification.
Previous Emergency Dispatching Experience.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience.
Must have accurate data entry experience. Valid DMV operator license.
Must never have been convicted of a felony or crime of moral turpitude.
Ability to perform emergency dispatch support work with accuracy, speed and minimal supervision; demonstrated ability to read and interpret agency policies, procedures, and regulations, to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse populations, to work in a team environment with all levels of local, state, federal, university and private sector.
Ability to work under stressful conditions; to read maps and interpret information, route multiple incoming emergency calls and make decisions to successfully coordinate multiple functions for multiple agencies.
Ability to analyze data in order to make decisions and maintain situational awareness across the Commonwealth.
Ability to operate complex technological systems such as the Common Operating Picture and Crisis Management System.
Ability to work in a 24-hour operation, 7-day rotating schedule is required.
Ability to work rotating shifts, may be assigned mandatory overtime up to 12 hours.
Must be able to function physically and mentally under extreme stress and during emergency situations.
Ability to complete DCJS Basic Dispatch Certification and VCIN Class "A" Certification within 12 months of hire.
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
