Post-Doctoral Fellow Researcher, School of Medicine / Psychiatry
The positions will be located at the Virginia Institute for Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics (VIPBG) (www.vipbg.vcu.edu). VIPBG is world-renowned for its contributions to the genetic epidemiology of behavior and psychopathology. Its faculty and affiliates represent diverse disciplines including molecular genetics, psychology, epidemiology, and statistics. Accordingly, the successful candidates will have access to a range of training opportunities during the course of their postdoctoral research.
Position Summary & Primary Responsibilities:
We are investigating the associations between psychiatric internalizing disorders and functional disorders (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia and Irritable Bowel Syndrome at the phenotypic and genotypic levels, while at the same time clarifying the direction of causation between IDs and FDs. The person required will be jointly supervised by the project PIs and CoIs. He or she responsibilities will primarily involve the application of statistical methods to address the aims of the grant. Statistical expertise is therefore required in the areas of regression-based analyses, structural equation modeling of cross-sectional and longitudinal data, and the analysis of molecular data. Additional responsibilities include the dissemination of his/her findings in publications and at conferences. He/she will be required to meet once per week with VCU PI or VCU CO-Is to discuss progress towards aims. He/she will also participate in regular fortnightly group calls to discuss progress regarding statistical analysis, and the drafting and editing of manuscripts for publication.
Required Qualifications:
Minimal expertise includes good communication and writing skills, one or more publications in peer- reviewed journals, and a PhD in epidemiology, or behavioural genetics, or molecular/human genetics or a related discipline that emphasized the application of statistical methodologies for understanding human individual differences. We will provide supervision and ongoing training in the form of one- on-one mentoring, formal classesif required, and the opportunity to attend domestic or international training seminars.
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent writing skills, multiple publications, and training in epidemiology, or behavioral genetics, or molecular genetics, and the ability to work with large and multiple data sets comprising phenotypic and genotypic data.
