The Center for Diabetes Technology (CDT) invites applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Associate for their research team, focusing on psychological and behavioral aspects of highly complex diabetes technology. CDT is a recognized world leader in thetechnological treatment of diabetes and the hub of an international research network of leading U.S. institutions. We advance the use of technology to allow improved therapies and quality of life for patients with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes.

The CDT is directed by Boris Kovatchev, PhD, a world renowned researcher in the field of Diabetes, algorithm development and data science. Dr. Kovatchev is a regular lecturer at Universities and Conferences throughout the US and Europe. He is actively involved with Center projects and with the direction and education of all post-doctoral candidates.With substantial NIH funding, the Center led and successfully completed the three largest randomized Artificial Pancreas(AP) clinical trials in the World to date , including a pivotal trial aiming for regulatory clearance of a new AP System (that included the algorithm program developed at the Center), published on October 16, 2019 in the New England Journal of Medicine .

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work with Dr. Marc Breton, Associate Director of Research, under the direct supervision of Dr. Linda Gonder-Frederick who has worked in behavioral diabetes research for several decades over a broad range of topics including the impact of hypoglycemia on people living with diabetes and their families, development of patient-reported outcome measures, and user experience with diabetes technology. Successful candidates will also work under the training and supervision of a team of accomplished faculty members and physicians. The research environment at the CDT is highly interdisciplinary and offers the opportunity to work with teams on translational research in biotechnology, biomedical engineering, advanced mathematics, clinical implementation of technologies, and data science.

Incumbents will perform high-profile, NIH-funded and other sponsored research in this interdisciplinary international research setting and be a regular attendee at Diabetes and technology conferences.

Successful candidates will conduct supervised and independent research for the Center for Diabetes Technology and expand Center-related research lines in:
  • Development, testing, and use of patient-reported outcome measures relevant to user experience with diabetes technology and impact on quality of life;
  • Development of innovative methods for collecting behavioral and psychosocial data in real-world settings, including ecological momentary assessment strategies;
  • Statistical analysis and predictive modeling relevant to successful technology use in the real world and barriers to adoption and utilization; and
  • Participation in the design of user interface graphics and interactions with technology that are person-friendly and designed to enhance a positive user experience.


This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.

Postdoctoral employment is temporary and is normally limited to an individual who has been awarded a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate within the previous five years and who will be involved in full-time research or scholarship at the University. Employment as a Postdoctoral Research Associate is viewed as training and is preparatory for a full-time academic or research career, is supervised by a senior scholar, and allows the appointee to publish the results of his/her research or scholarship during the training period.

Education: Doctoral degree

Experience: Training and/or experience in behavioral research

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

Experience: Research experience in a laboratory involved in research (diabetes preferred) and competency in statistical analysis.
