Postdoctoral Research Associate, Public Health Sciences

The Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Virginia is seeking candidates for a postdoctoral research associate position in Dr. Wen You Lab.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• The successful candidate will contribute to our efforts to address health needs across several chronic diseases including (but not limited to) cancers, diabetes, obesity etc.
  
• The candidate will be expected to utilize a wide-range of econometrics, applied health economics and quantitative modeling and tools, including principal-agent modeling, agent-based simulation methods, econometric longitudinal analysis and selection models, and behavioral incentive designs, among others.
  
• This position offers an exciting opportunity to immerse in interdisciplinary research and translational research.
  
• The candidate will work closely with Dr. Wen You on several projects related to economic program evaluation and risk prediction modelling work on improving primary care for cancer survivors.
  
• The candidate will be expected to work both independently and in a team setting, and be responsible for writing manuscripts describing their work, advising graduate student and undergraduate students, and presenting at local, national and international conferences and seminars.
  

Minimum Requirements:

Doctoral degree

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in economics, applied economics, computer science, biostatistics or a related field; knowledge of statistics, econometrics, health program evaluation
  
• Experience in working with health claims and electronic medical records; excellent written and oral communication skills;
  
• Proficient in one or more data management and analysis software (e.g., R, Python, Stata, Matlab, SAS).
  
• Working knowledge of advances in economic program evaluation, experience in data management and econometric analysis, experience with medical claims data.
  

This position is offered as a 12-month appointment, with the possibility of renewal based on satisfactory performance and the availability of funding. This role is designed as a training opportunity in preparation for a full-time academic or research career. Postdoctoral Research Associates work under the supervision of a senior scholar , focusing on full-time research or scholarship , with the freedom to publish your findings.

Compensation:

Determined based on educational background and experience, in accordance with NIH guidelines.
