The Biomedical Engineering Department of the College of Engineering seeks culturally and professionally diverse candidates to apply for the Postdoctoral Research Associate -Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation position. Since its inception in 1996, the Virginia Commonwealth University College of Engineering has brought innovative, real-world engineering education to Central Virginia. Position Responsibilities:
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be responsible for conducting and managing a project that focuses on an immersive virtual reality and spinal stimulation rehabilitation approach to improve upper limb function in individuals with tetraplegia. Responsibilities may include leading or assisting with writing and managing IRB protocols, consenting human subject volunteers, developing and carrying out research protocols, development of custom algorithms for data processing, providing instruction and oversight to graduate and undergraduate students, and preparing abstracts and manuscripts. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work in an interdisciplinary team and will be directly mentored by Dr. Carrie Peterson. Dr. Peterson will provide project oversight and career development opportunities.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in biomedical engineering or an equivalent field with experience in data collection, processing, and computer programming - Ability to mentor junior team members and ensure the highest levels of laboratory safety - Excellent communication skills - Demonstrated ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams. -The College of Engineering supports a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment. Preferred Qualifications:
-Published expertise in clinical and translational rehabilitation research.
