Job Duties

Manages all aspects of the operation and maintenance of the Bland Correctional Center, coal fired boiler steam plant. Supervises and ensures safe and efficient operation of the steam plant. Adheres to all applicable Federal and State environmental and occupational safety compliance requirements (Department of Environmental Quality, United States Environmental Protection Agency, State Environmental Policy Act, Virginia Occupational Safety and Health, Virginia Department of Labor and Industry, etc.). Ensures the steam plant produces a reliable steam supply for the Bland Correctional Center.

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage all aspects of operation of coal fired steam boiler plant. Knowledgeable of the operation, maintenance and water chemistry of coal fired high pressure steam boilers. Demonstrated ability to read and follow written procedures and to prioritize, and complete assignments with minimal guidance. Required computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Additional Considerations

In possession of a current American Society of Power Engineers (ASOPE)/National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers (NIULPE) Operating Engineer License. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training.
