Chief Purpose of this Position: The Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism of Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine seeks applicants for a position at the Assistant/Associate Professor level to enhance clinical programs in the care of patients with diabetes, related metabolic conditions and endocrine disorders. The successful candidate will participate as Clinician-Educator in the teaching and mentoring of medical students, residents and endocrinology fellows in inpatient and outpatient settings; will establish outpatient clinics in diabetes, general endocrinology and other areas according to the applicant’s interest; and will contribute to the overall scholarly and research activities of the Division.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Teaching: Staff Endocrinology fellows’ clinic and endocrinology consultation service.Teach fellows, residents and medical students using adult teaching methods that enhance and encourage active learning and ongoing professional development. Complete students, residents and fellows evaluations. Participate in other endocrine educational activities including resident didactic series, noon conferences, morning report, Endocrine and Internal Medicine Grand Rounds, instruct undergraduate endocrine course and other educational duties assigned by the department and service.
Research: Participate in clinical and administrative research according to skills, interest and funding. Provide mentoring and supervision of fellows and residents in research and QI initiatives. Research opportunities may include performance improvement initiatives or formal extramurally funded investigations and participation may be as principle investigator or co-investigator.
Service: Work with institutional and administrative staff to attain the objectives of Virginia Commonwealth University and VCU Health System including patient safety, customer satisfaction, maintenance and enhancement of public perception and fiscal health.
Clinical: Provide excellent patient care in general endocrinology and focused areas of interest and experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Actively participate in management of patients on endocrinology consult service.Join colleagues in assuring service coverage 24/7/365.
