Job Description
This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position. The Department of Psychology combines an international reputation for excellence in research with a substantial teaching mission. It is one of 10 academic units in the College of Science (Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Economics, Geosciences, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, Statistics, School of Neuroscience, and Academy of Integrated Science).
The Department currently includes 25 tenure/tenure track faculty members, 1 collegiate faculty member, 1 clinical faculty member, 2 instructional faculty, 4 part-time instructors, 8 support staff, as well as more than 60 graduate students and 900 undergraduate majors. We have 4 graduate training areas: Developmental, Clinical, Industrial/Organizational, and Biological. Researchers in the department share a common interest in understanding psychological processes involved in human behavior, including mental and physical health, and engagement with family, work, and the community. Our faculty’s specific interests, research methods, and expertise are diverse and include both behavioral and neuroscience approaches with experimental, survey, and big data methodologies ranging from emphases on basic psychological processes to implications for developmental, organizational, and clinical issues.
The Department Chair provides leadership in the management and administration of the department, with oversight in areas of faculty and staff recruiting, retention and promotion; diversity and inclusion; curriculum development; budgeting and reporting; facilities maintenance and improvement; gifts and endowments; and support of external research funding. The Department Chair advocates for the research, teaching and service missions of the department at the local, national, and international levels, and focuses on achieving strategic goals within the department, college, and university.
The Department Chair reports to the Dean of the College of Science, and maintains liaisons with other leadership within the college, the university, state and federal agencies, and relevant professional associations. Required Qualifications
Potential candidates must have a Ph.D. in psychology or a closely related field, demonstrated administrative and programmatic leadership experience, and a broad understanding of psychology.
Candidates should have an exceptional record of accomplishment, including demonstrated strength in research as evidenced by outstanding publications and sustained extramural funding, and in teaching and professional service, qualifying them for appointment at the rank of Professor in the Department of Psychology.
The position requires a leader with vision, an open and inclusive management style, a strong interest in alumni relations and philanthropy, and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the university.
