The Department of Management in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech seeks applications for one tenure-track full professor position in Organizational Behavior/Human Resources to begin August 2023. We are interested in candidates who are full or senior associate professors at top research institutions. The potential for an endowed professorship exists for a candidate with very strong research credentials. The Department of Management consists of 30 full-time faculty with an impressive range of leading-edge research and teaching expertise in the field of management. Our current faculty (Jeffrey B. Arthur, Kiran Awate, Daniel J. Beal, William J. Becker, Cynthia E. Devers, Devi R. Gnyawali, Donald Hatfield, Richard A. Hunt, Ayenda Kemp, Pankaj Kumar, Trey Lewis, Karen Schnatterly, Max Stallkamp, Phil Thompson, David M. Townsend, Beverly Tyler, A.K. Ward Bartlett) publish in top journals, including Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Organization Science, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management, Journal of Business Venturing, Academy of Management Annals, and others.
The Department of Management offers a PhD in Business Administration with a major in Management. Many of our recent doctoral students have had papers accepted in top journals before they entered the job market. Therefore, actively training and working with PhD students is expected of the individual chosen to fill the position.
Recent accolades received by the Department of Management and its research and instructional programs include # 25 ranking in the Princeton Review's list of top undergraduate programs in entrepreneurship and the USASBE Model Program Award recognizing excellence in entrepreneurship education.
The Pamplin College of Business offers majors in management, accounting and information systems, business information technology, finance, hospitality and tourism management, and marketing. The Department of Management is an active contributor to many of the college’s programs such as the part-time MBA, EMBA, online MBA programs; the Master of Information Technology program; and the Executive Ph.D. program. Several programs are conducted in the Northern Virginia/metropolitan Washington, D.C. area. Qualified candidates should possess: (1) a doctorate in Management or a closely related field from an AACSB/EQUIS or similarly accredited school by appointment start date; (2) a strong program of scholarly research with recent publications in elite management journals and evidence of working with and mentoring doctoral students and junior faculty; (3) interest in continuing to conduct research having a high probability of publication in top-quality journals (4) instructional capabilities at the undergraduate, MBA, and doctoral levels; and (5) the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging efforts of the college and university. Occasional travel to attend professional conferences and meetings is expected. A criminal background check will be required.
Preferred candidates will have: (1) experience as a mentor to junior faculty and doctoral students, (2) overlap of research interests with those of our current faculty in the micro areas, and (3) demonstrated teaching effectiveness at masters and Ph.D. levels.
