Job Duties

This position supports the Offender Management Services Court and Legal Services Section in ensuring accurate application of Virginia statutes and Virginia Department of Corrections policies governing offender sentence computation. This position researches, evaluates, and interprets incoming court orders, jail credits, and related documentation to determine state-responsibility status and confirm all sentencing components required for accurate time computation and release-date establishment. The role ensures the integrity of offender records by verifying aliases, demographics, and sentencing details; prioritizing files based on release proximity; obtaining all necessary legal documents; and maintaining organized workflow and reporting. Through thorough analysis, independent problem-solving, and effective communication, this position contributes to the reliable processing of inmate records for both VADOC facilities and local jails across Virginia.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified applicants must demonstrate experience researching, interpreting, and processing legal or criminal‑justice documents such as court orders, jail credits, or sentencing records. Candidates should show ability to analyze complex information, apply state laws or policies, and work independently with minimal supervision. Experience utilizing automated criminal‑justice or records‑management systems (e.g., VACORIS, CAIS, LIDS, VCIN) and performing detailed data verification is essential. Applicants must be able to adapt to procedural changes, manage high‑volume workloads, communicate effectively in writing and verbally, and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Strong problem‑solving skills and knowledge of criminal procedures or inmate‑record practices. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.

Additional Considerations

Applicants with experience in criminal justice or closely related fields, particularly in criminal procedures, records processing, or offender time computation, may be given additional consideration. Familiarity with Virginia sentencing practices, jail credit procedures, or court documentation workflows is beneficial. Demonstrated proficiency with criminal‑justice data systems, high‑volume record handling, and independent decision‑making in a legal or correctional environment will further strengthen a candidate’s suitability for this position.
