Job Duties
•Conducts background checks prior to the purchase of a firearm.
•Performs computer formatted functions to maintain an accurate current and final status of firearms purchase applications.
•Provides instructional and operational assistance to users of the VCheck system.
•Implements data sharing with the FBI and state counterparts accessing the NICS Index.
•Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.
•May be required to perform other duties as assigned. •May be required to assist the Department or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
Minimum Qualifications
•Must be willing to work Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to include weekends and holidays.
•Knowledge of state and federal criminal history databases (VCIN, NCIC); and the demonstrated ability to access, retrieve, and interpret state and federal automated records.
•Some knowledge of statistical analysis; and to apply policies and procedures when making recommendations.
•Demonstrated ability to apply research and analytical methodology in the interpretation of criminal arrest and disposition information.
•Demonstrated ability to write and communicate effectively; and the ability to respond to inquiries from the general public.
•Direct knowledge or experience in VCIN/NCIC and MS Office applications to include Word, Excel, Exchange/Outlook and basic computer operations. VCIN certification will be required.
•Graduation from high school or equivalent.
•Direct experience associated with VCIN/NCIC.
•Demonstrated experience in retrieval and interpretation of criminal arrest and disposition information.
•Must be VCIN certified or ability to become certified within specific time frame.
•An equivalent combination or education related to the duties of this position.
