Prosthetic and Orthotic Certified Assistants are educated and trained to participate in comprehensive orthotic or prosthetic care, while under the supervision of a certified orthotist or prosthetist. Certified assistants may perform orthotic or prosthetic procedures and related tasks in the management of patient care. The initial evaluation and formulation of the treatment plan is the responsibility of the supervising orthotist or prosthetist.
Fabricate, repair, and maintain devices to provide maximum fit, function, and display of physical restoration and appearance.
Manage comprehensive orthotic or prosthetic patient care.
Obtain initial evaluation and treatment plan from more experienced and certified orthotist or prosthetist.
Conduct patient assessment of the device, implementation of the treatment plan, and follow-up.
Assist in obtaining proper documentation and insurance authorization for services provided.
Independently provide or supervise the provision of comprehensive orthotic or prosthetic care.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School Diploma
Experience: A t least one year of experience with design and production of prosthetic and orthotic devices or completion of an National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education accredited orthotic-prosthetic assistant education program.
Licensure: BOC certification is typical.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Stands on tile over concrete to complete some tasks during each day.
