Lab and Research Technician 2 employees provide increasingly complex technical support for projects and may engage in increasingly complex scientific experiments. May handle more sophisticated administrative and logistical tasks. Lab and Research Technician 2 employees operate under supervision with a degree of independence when following set protocols and procedures.
The Erisir laboratory in the Department of Psychology is seeking a Laboratory Technician 2. Job duties will include the following:
• Provide support for the ongoing daily operation of a Systems-Level Neuroscience laboratory
• Assist with the technical aspects of the research project that examines the central nervous system development and plasticity of the taste system
• Responsible for the breeding and maintenance of animal colonies of mammalian species
• Responsible for histological analyses and collection of images with a confocal microscope
• Maintain lab supplies and equipment
• In addition to the above, other duties may be assigned.
This full-time position will remain open until filled.
This is a restricted position contingent on continued funding.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Associate's degree
Experience:At least 2 years of lab experience which may include student experience.Bachelor's degree in related science will be considered in lieu of experience.
Licensure: None.
Preferred Qualifications:
BA or BS in Biology, Chemistry, or Neuroscience or other majors with an emphasis in Neuroscience is preferred.
Preferred Experience: Some - up to 2 years Preferred: Lab tech experience with animal colony breeding. We are also highly interested in someone with excellent organizational skills.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Embedding and sectioning tissue for light microscopic experiments, immunohistochemistry, mouse colony oversight
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring finer finger manipulation.
