UVA Stuarts Draft Family Practice is seeking an experienced, autonomous Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to provide outpatient behavioral health services within a collaborative primary care setting. This full-time position offers a four-day workweek (4 x 10-hour shifts) with no inpatient responsibilities.

Position Highlights

  • Full-time, outpatient-only practice
  • Four 10-hour days, Monday-Friday
  • No hospital call or inpatient coverage
  • Integrated behavioral health model within a primary care practice
  • Collaborative support from primary care providers, nursing, and care management teams


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments for adolescents and adults.
  • Diagnose and treat a broad range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and other psychiatric disorders.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans utilizing evidence-based medication management and therapeutic interventions.
  • Prescribe, adjust, and monitor psychotropic medications in accordance with Virginia regulations and clinical best practices.
  • Provide ongoing follow-up care, including symptom management, treatment monitoring, and medication education.
  • Collaborate closely with primary care providers to support integrated patient care and address behavioral health needs within the primary care setting.
  • Coordinate referrals to specialty behavioral health services, counseling, substance use treatment, and community resources as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a patient-centered, team-based care environment.


Qualifications

  • Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
  • Current or eligible Virginia Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse licensure.
  • DEA registration and prescriptive authority eligibility.
  • Minimum of 3 years of psychiatric practice experience preferred.
  • Ability to practice independently and manage a diverse outpatient psychiatric patient panel.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
