Mission or Goal of Unit: The Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine Division at VCU is a multi-faceted Division with full time faculty who care for patients with all forms of acute or chronic lung disease and critical illness. The mission of the Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine Division is to provide the best clinical care available for patients with lung disease and associated medical illnesses in the Commonwealth of Virginia. We feel that this care can best be delivered within the VCU Health System. Our mission is to train students, residents and fellows in the disciplines of lung disease, critical illness and associated disorders. Finally, we strive to advance knowledge in our field through organized research with a goal of improving human health.

Chief Purpose of this position: The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine is seeking BC/BE Physicians at the Assistant or Associate Professor level with a primary focus of providing pulmonary and critical care services as an attending physician in several roles on our consultation services, our outpatient clinics and Medical Respiratory ICU (MRICU) at the VCU Health System. Responsibilities include pulmonary and critical care consultation, MRICU attending, pulmonary outpatient clinic, administrative duties, teaching and supervision of students, advanced practice providers, housestaff and fellows. Percent effort will distributed between pulmonary and critical care. Candidates are encouraged to have additional expertise in areas of advanced lung disease including Interstitial Lung Disease, Asthma, Pulmonary Hypertension or COPD.

Position Responsibilities:

Teaching | Provide teaching service to learners, including medical students, interns and residents. Use contemporary adult learning methods to promote evidence-based practice. Demonstrate effective teaching skills and continually develop as a teacher for learners at all levels. Complete required evaluations of learners in a timely manner - including but not limited to written and verbal feedback. Participate in other learning activities such as foundations of clinical medicine, morning report, core conference, and other formal educational programs for undergraduate and post-graduate learners.

Service | Work with institutional staff and administration to attain the strategic objectives of VCU Medical Center, including patient safety, patient and other customer satisfaction, maintenance and enhancement of public perception, and fiscal health. Serves on institutional committees, study sections, review groups, as a journal editor, or editorial boards.

Clinical | Will provide exemplary care in the areas of pulmonary disease and critical care. These duties will include inpatient services on the MRICU, pulmonary/critical care consultation and telehealth service. Additionally, will provide care on outpatient services.

Required Qualifications:
  • BC/BE in Pulmonary and Critical Care after completing an ACGME-approved fellowship in Pulmonary-CC
  • Demonstrated experience working and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment and commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Expertise in areas of advanced lung disease including Interstitial Lung Disease, Asthma, Pulmonary Hypertension or COPD
