Under the direct supervision of the Endoscopy Manager, the Quality and Education Coordinator is responsible for providing clinical expertise in all aspects of procedural areas as well as reprocessing of equipment. Performs ongoing staff education, and demonstrates ability to influence motivation and retention of other staff members. Performs support activities in assigned areas for consistency and smooth transition of the daily work flow. Demonstrates cost effective advanced technical skills and ownership for work area. Assist with emergent transportation needs, and independently maintains quality control documentation records for equipment and/or reprocessing. Maintain and order all special order items, and maintain adequate par levels, according to special request and needs. Participates in hospital improvement activities

  • Has competent working knowledge in all areas of Digestive Health Service area
  • Supplies and equipment are assembled as appropriate for procedures. Patients are transported safely to and from procedures via stretcher. Anticipates physicians’ instrument needs intra procedure. Additional supplies and equipment are procured during procedure as needed. Supplies are restocked as used during and after the procedure. Assistance is provided to physicians with paracentesis and liver biopsies as needed. Assistance is provided to Physicians during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed. Directly assists with performing Endoscopy or Bronchoscopy Ultrasound Procedures. Demonstrates advanced technical skills and ownership for the work area Ability to work independently in work area with little oversight. Applies professional knowledge while working in the specialized area Continually seeks out additional training opportunities and stays abreast of new and changing information for these assigned areas Staff is trained and performance is monitored and evaluated. Assistance is provided in the routine interviewing and selection of essential personnel. Work procedures and schedules are developed and modified as necessary. Rapid response to emergency situations is provided as necessary. Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care
  • Supports direct care providers in the Prep, Procedure and Recovery Room environment.
  • Equipment is disinfected, patient rooms and stretchers are cleaned and contaminated and single-use items are disposed of in accordance with the infection control and high-level disinfection policies and procedures for flexible endoscopes. Differentiation between and anticipation of supplies needed for specific procedures, general anesthesia and procedural sedation patients is routinely performed. Differentiation between and anticipation of the types of monitoring equipment and supplies needed for patient population specific care is routinely performed. Adequate par levels of supplies, patient nourishment items and linens are maintained. Inventory and ordering of special order supplies is performed on a routine basis Linen and unit stock supply needs are communicated to appropriate department/contact person as needed. Participation in post-procedure monitoring including the ability to discriminate between normal and abnormal vital sign findings is demonstrated. Deviations are reported to RN in a timely manner. Care provided to patients is documented appropriately. For PCT, EMT-ST, or EMT-CT certified personnel, initiation and documentation of keep open IV pre-procedure, as directed by supervising RN, is performed according to policy and procedure.
  • Maintains necessary skills and competencies.
  • Endoscope disinfection proficiency is consistently demonstrated. Glucose monitoring is proficiently demonstrated. 12 lead EKG is proficiently performed. Correct endoscope handling and testing is consistently demonstrated. Quality control testing and documentation proficiency for equipment disinfection is consistently demonstrated. Accurate equipment and supply set-up is demonstrated by procedure type. Successful completion of bi-annual BLS certification and annual AED training.
  • Radiation safety competency is demonstrated
  • Supports Endoscopy Care Environment.
  • Proper identification of patients and patient specimens is consistently demonstrated. Patient and personnel safety procedures are adhered to (infection control, fire safety, electric and chemical hazards identified, etc.). System issues are brought to management’s attention in a timely manner. Interdisciplinary team participation is evident in all areas of practice. Emergency situations are immediately and competently responded to (cardiac arrest, difficult airway, malignant hyperthermia, etc). Demonstration of high level of customer service behaviors when interacting with peers, physicians, nursing staff, patients and families is evident in daily practice.
  • Interfaces effectively with peers and customers and assumes responsibility for professional development of self and others per department policy.
  • Strengths and opportunities for professional development are identified and goals for self-improvement are set and documented. A positive environment conducive to development of others is demonstrated on an ongoing basis. Including but not limited to perception, teaching, orienting, role modeling, and team participation. Work with and communicate with vendors to maintain and establish inventory of specialized medical supplies. Responsible for performing department audits and maintaining quality records. Participate in Organizational wide committees or Improvement Process committees.
  • Serves as the resource for information for employees and customers.
  • Communications are maintained with all team members to be sure all pertinent information is shared in a timely manner. All departmental, Medical Center and safety policies and procedures are well understood and followed. Policies and procedures are explained to Medical Center staff as necessary and appropriate.
  • Participates in various teaching and/or learning opportunities and facilitates the training of new employees.
  • Assistance is offered in coordination of in-service education programs for physicians, technologists, and customer service staff. Active participation in staff meetings. Orients new staff members to department policies, procedures and information. Commitment to enhancement of job-related skills and abilities is demonstrated through participation in educational opportunities on an ongoing basis.
  • Performs various data entry and customer service functions and communicates feedback in order to ensure goals of the department are met and operations run efficiently.
  • Documentation is maintained in a timely manner. Constructive feedback is regularly provided on issues concerning quality and efficiency. Computer literacy skills are maintained for all pertinent computer capabilities and Medical Center software. Entries on bi-weekly time records are verified and overtime is approved in a timely and accurate manner to supply correct data to the payroll department.
  • Assists the Director with performing various administrative functions, including employee and customer relations, and ensuring regulatory compliance and quality review in order to ensure the goals of the department are met.
  • Communication with staff is ongoing and effective in providing updates of relevant information from department administration, physicians, technological staff and service representatives, as well as technical information, with no more than two complaints per month of not being adequately informed. Significant input is provided into performance reviews of staff utilizing the performance review material set forth by the Medical Center. Commitment to cost reduction is demonstrated by reviewing staffing schedules and by working with staff to reduce supply expenses. Feedback is provided to the department manager concerning ways to improve issues affecting staff relations.
  • Models team behaviors to frontline employees.
  • Endoscopy Technician skills are maintained to ensure full coverage and to enable employees to be moved from one area/room to another as appropriate. Leadership coverage is maintained at all times, either by being on-site or via communication with charge nurses and/or managers. All problems are triaged and reported appropriately.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Position Compensation Range: $16.64 - $25.79 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent required.

Experience:Four years’ experience as a Surgical Tech or Endoscopy Tech required.

Licensure: Must have nursing assistant certification or possess a valid EMT at time of hire. 2 years of endoscopy experience may be accepted in lieu of nursing assistant or EMT licensure requirement. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. Must successfully complete the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses Association (SGNA) Associates Program which will grant recognition as a GTS (GI Technical Specialist) within 60 days of start date.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
